Lake County Community Co-op Presents...
Dancing TreePeople Farm and Permaculture Tour in Upper Lake
Saturday, October 29, 2011, 10am-12noon (rain or shine)
Meet at: 10am at Dancing TreePeople Farm,
1445 Pitney Lane, Upper Lake (directions below)
Join us as we tour Dancing TreePeople Farm and the gentle way of ecological living in Upper Lake . Organic farmers, Denise Rushing and Loretta McCarthy, will guide us around their 11 acre walnut orchard and permaculture gardens, explaining how they’ve turned the land into an organic Eden since the year 2004. We’ll see their greenhouses and their “food forest” where everything grown is either edible or medicinal. Dancing TreePeople Farm’s mission is to embody and demonstrate the principles of regenerative design and ecological living, known as permaculture. The principles include: Care of the Earth, Care of the people, and Return the surplus. One of the present goals is to transition the land from a monoculture (walnuts) to a diversity of produce. We’ll explore composting, drip systems, cover crops and the importance of ‘location’—such as, growing your winter garden closer to your house.
The tour is free to Co-op members and the public. There is no need to RSVP.
Directions: In Upper Lake, take Main Street north and turn right on Second St; then take the first left onto Middle Creek Road. Continue as you veer to the right onto Elk Mountain Road. Then turn right onto Pitney Lane and the farm is just over one mile on your right.
One of the Lake County Community Co-op’s goals is to educate Lake Co residents on how to live more healthfully and sustainably by keeping it local and, in this case, learning to become more self-sufficient with your own ecologically friendly farm or garden. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to attend this orchard and garden tour in the beautiful countryside of Upper Lake .
